Emergency Response

The Emergency Response Team is trained and equipped to effectively respond to natural and human-caused disasters such as:

  • Typhoons
  • Earthquakes
  • Chemical and Oil Spills
  • Terrorist Attacks

The CNMI has a multi-agency Emergency Response team that includes:

  • Division of Environmental Quality
  • Emergency Management
  • Department of Public Safety
  • Department of Public Works
  • Coastal Resources Management
  • Office of the Mayor
  • Commonwealth Ports Authority-AARF

DEQ Emergency Responders are on-call 24/7. These responders have all taken the forty hour Hazwoper Health and Safety course in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120. They continue to take part in advanced training on island and in the US. As mentioned above, DEQ responders respond to minor and major incidents.

In case of emergency, call:

  • DEQ on weekdays at 664-8500/8501
  • EMO on nights and weekends at 322-8002

When reporting an emergency, please give the following information:

  • Reporter's name (optional)
  • Date
  • Time
  • Location
  • Type of emergency
  • Responsible party (if available)
  • Return phone number in case more information is needed
